ARCADE's Spotlight Youth Theatre

presents the much-loved children's book turned to musical, Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical Jr.

Matilda is a bright and intelligent girl who is unloved by her cruel parents. Starting school, she finds new friends, and impresses the sweet and kind, Miss Honey.

However the school is terrorised by the mean headteacher, Miss Trunchball, who hates children and delights in coming up with new punishments for those who don’t follow her rules.

Matilda’s courage and imagination inspires others to embrace being a ‘little bit naughty’ and become

‘revolting children’.

But will Matilda, Miss Honey and the children break free of the ‘chokey’-hold of Miss Trunchball?

The cast of 33 young people from the Bridlington area are directed by Alice Kynman (she/her, Musician and Young Talent Director at Stephen Joseph Theatre) and produced by JJ Cruickshank (he/they, ARCADE Producer)

Adults only

Bursting with imagination and wit and presented by just four actors, Bouncers is an outrageous and hilarious parody of the disco scene.

The four brutish bouncers of the title portray over twenty different characters as we are invited for a night out on the town.

We see them as giggly girls and lads on the make preparing for the big night out as we follow their progress to the disco floor where we also meet an entire cross-section of disco-goers, including Hooray Henrys, pogoing punks and drunken slobs!

The evening's events are set against the tatty glitzy glamour, flashing lights and pulsating beat of the nightclub, as seen through the eyes of Judd, Ralph, Les and Lucky Eric

An exhilarating night out for all concerned.

`Consistently entertaining.' - Evening Standard
`Bouncers is brilliant.' - Daily Mail

The Old Curiosity Shop

Sunday 9th November @ 2:30pm

All tickets £15, Concessions £10

First published in 1841, The Old Curiosity Shop was Charles Dickens’ fourth novel and a phenomenon in its day. When the final instalment arrived by ship in New York, eager readers reportedly stormed the dock in anticipation.

This powerful story follows Nell Trent and her grandfather, residents of the eponymous London shop, whose lives are upended by debt, desperation and the sinister influence of moneylender Daniel Quilp. As the grandfather’s gambling spirals out of control, the pair are forced to flee, encountering danger and kindness in equal measure.

In this evocative stage production, the tale is enriched with a vibrant musical score composed by John Holtby. Originally adapted in 1990 by Norman F. Parker, the script has since been revised, with new musical numbers added by Richard Green, who also directs.

Staying true to the era of the novel, the production evokes a rich, Hogarthian atmosphere. Expect humour, heartbreak and unforgettable characters in this dramatic retelling of one of Dickens’ most enduring works.
